What can I say, we lost!
What else can I say....So What! We're Back!
Why not worried......It's game one after 2 plus years and we have to re-build. We came up against a team that is one of the favourites to take out the competition and so not really disgraced. Everything we did turned to stone and everything the Roosters did turned to gold. (including many referee decisions but not offering that as an excuse at all).
Thanks to all the people involved in the fightback (that is you and all the others!) as without the long struggle we may not have ever been able to sit and watch our team play again. The supporters, although dissapointed at a loss, stayed to the end and continually cheered them on. It is not win, lose or draw that is important. It is how you play the game and conduct yourself as a fan, official or player that counts (although a win is nice - smile). More importantly is that you are actually able to play!!!
This was not the best game we have seen Souths play this year as they showed in the trials what they are capable of so continue to turn up at games and show them we can wait a bit for the team to gel.
The official attendance crowd was 35,316 despite the game actually being a sell out (around 40,000 plus). It always amazes me that people buy tickets and don't turn up. Some would have genuine reasons and others (no doubt Rooster's supporters LOL) just decided to stay home and watch the replay on television (isn't that what you want Mr Murdoch? Can't have crowds and Pay TV together old mate!?)
The weather was perfect, the stage was set and the fans went wild as the team ran out for the first time in so long. First division had a good win and showed that we do have some depth despite all the critics! Roosters are a top side and I was told by my Brother he hasn't seen them play as good as that in about 2 years. Their normal game is a good one but boy they took it up to us in a big way as I am sure the 35,000 Souths fans ticked them off just a wee bit. LOL LOL.
Souths actually could have had a lot more points scored against them given the all game possession the Roosters had and the mistakes we made (probably some nerves amongst other things?). They did well to hold it where it was. In fact we did not score until the dying minutes and it was a ripper of a try and brought the house down. You would have thought we had won a Grand Final. (Well we haven't had much to cheer about the past couple of years). This was virtually the first time we got into the oppositions 20 metres and WE SCORED! (If only we got there more often during the afternoon, oh well). We also kicked the goal! Souths will build on this and I truly feel it may be better in the seasons long term for Souths. I have never heard so much loud cheering and we were losing, must be happy to be just back in the competition, eh? Thanks Easts for not letting us have the full fairy tale ending to our fightback by thrashing us - LOL.
Back to the club after the game for a couple of quiet drinks (LOL) and it was packed.
Well done Souths and Easts.....we can take it as we can finally NOW say there is always next week!

Note:- To view larger picture click on the thumbnails below and a new browser window should open to display the larger version. All you have to do is re-select this window and click on the next picture you want to look at and go back to the other browser window and so forth. This is to save you having to continually click on the 'back' button in this window. It also allows you to use the back button on the picture 'viewing' (ie the new browser window) to look back and forward at the pictures you have already downloaded saving you having to download them again. Better still click on first thumbnail, then come back here and click on all the other thumbnails you want to see. When finished go to the 'viewing' window and use back and forward buttons to browse each larger image at once! As you do this 'clicking', provided your browser is set up to it's default setting, the file names under each of the thumbnails will change colour so you can keep track of which ones you have already clicked on thus avoiding repetitive downloads which can cost you if on a limited ISP plan. (Usual default settings are red for not visited and blue for visited) Enjoy.
